The escalating conflict between Iran and Israel, now in its fifth day, is causing significant disruption to air and sea freight operations across the Middle East and beyond.
Air Freight Disruptions
Heightened tensions have led to widespread flight cancellations and diversions across the region. Israel’s Ben Gurion International Airport remains closed to both civilian and commercial air traffic, and national carrier El Al has suspended all services until at least 23 June.
Key regional airspace—including Iraq, a vital corridor for Europe-Asia flights—has been closed, prompting global carriers to reroute long-haul operations. As a result, airlines are avoiding airspace over Israel, Iraq, Jordan, and Syria, forcing a temporary reconfiguration of international flight paths.
Ocean Freight Challenges
The situation at sea is equally concerning. Iran has threatened to close the Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway through which approximately 20% of the world’s oil supply is transported. Any closure would have serious implications for global energy markets and supply chains.
In response, countries such as the UK have advised commercial vessels to avoid the Strait and the Gulf of Aden where possible. The possibility of restoring container traffic through the Red Sea now appears increasingly unlikely amid ongoing instability.
Outlook
With no clear resolution in sight, global logistics networks are bracing for further disruption. Atlantic Pacific continues to monitor developments closely. For the latest updates or assistance, please contact our team.
