Northern Ireland Gets New Scheme

July 02, 2023

A new scheme, in line with the Windsor Framework, has now been introduced that replaces the existing UK Trader Scheme (UKTS) from 30th September this year.

The new UK Internal Market Scheme (UKIMS) has an extended criteria to UKTS and will enable more businesses to participate. It will eventually enable shipments to travel through a ‘green lane’ when entering Northern Ireland.

HMRC have requested that traders complete their UKIMS application before July 31st 2023, which should ensure they can complete approval before the new scheme commences.

For now, UKTS holders may continue using that scheme, but will no longer be able to after 30th September. Users will NOT be automatically transferred to UKIMS. Therefore, you should apply as soon as possible.

The green lane comes into effect from September 30th 2024. For further information, please do not hesitate to contact us.

You can start your registration, or find out more, on the government UKIMS website page HERE.
