Typhoon Ragasa Disrupts Supply Chains Ahead of Golden Week
The aftermath of Super Typhoon Ragasa is causing supply chain disruptions across Guangdong province and the Pearl River Delta, with delays now expected to stretch beyond China’s Golden Week holiday period.
As the storm made landfall this week, operations at major terminals in Southern China – including Hong Kong – were suspended, bringing container flows to a standstill. With winds peaking at 125 mph and heavy rainfall battering the region, Ragasa became the most severe cyclone to hit the area this year.
Although some factories and port facilities have begun to restart today, recovery is likely to be slow. The timing has proven especially difficult, arriving just days before the annual Golden Week holiday shutdown beginning October 1st.
Many exporters had been rushing to move last-minute orders before the break, but the typhoon forced delays, leaving some shipments stuck at origin until normal operations resume after the holiday.
These interruptions are expected to cascade through global shipping schedules, adding to existing seasonal congestion across ports and transport networks worldwide.
